Meet Our Newest Board Members!

TOP is proud to introduce not one, but TWO new members joining our board! Please welcome Governance Director of the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools, Kevin Guitterrez, and CEO and founder of Tides Medical, Joe Spell.



Kevin Guitterrez brings his extensive 25-year background spanning the classroom to

the boardroom to his role as founder of Greenfield Partners, LLC, which helps

organizations build their capacity in areas including human capital, staff cohesion,

operations, academics, programming, external relations, governance, and succession

planning. Guitterrez also serves as the Governance Director for the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools (LAPCS). In this role, he supports LAPCS member schools to achieve excellence in nonprofit governance and amplify the work of charter board members.


Before founding Greenfield, Guitterrez spent 13 years in New Orleans, where he helped improve some of the most challenging schools in the country. He led ReNEW Schools as CEO and president and provided leadership for its unique commitment to students from birth thru high school. Prior to leading ReNEW, Guitterrez was Vice President of Services and Partnerships for the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching and deputy superintendent of the Louisiana Recovery School District, where he helped develop innovative initiatives to transform schools into successful places for students to learn. He also served as the founding chief academic officer for the Algiers Charter School Association in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.


Earlier in his career, Guitterrez worked for the Louisiana Department of Education’s

Distinguished Educator program and was an administrator and teacher in St. Charles

Parish Schools. His board experience includes: Advisory Member for the City of New

Orleans’ Parent Leadership Training Institute, Louisiana Department of Education’s

Accountability Commission, Louisiana Department of Education’s Blue Ribbon Committee for Teacher Quality, the New Orleans United Way School to Career Advisory Committee, Mary Queen of Peace School Advisory Board, and the board of Reconcile New Orleans.


Kevin is a New Orleans area native and holds a master’s degree in educational

leadership from the University of New Orleans, is currently a doctoral student at the

University of Holy Cross and is a fellow of Loyola University’s Institute of Politics. He is

the proud husband of Amy and the father of five daughters, Mirella, Mariska, Ava,

Emma, and Makala.



Joe Spell, CEO and founder of Tides Medical, has had extensive experience developing several successful businesses in the advanced medical product space. Throughout Spell’s almost 20 years of varied industry participation, he has specialized in spinal implant technologies, orthopedic implants, and hospital sterilization. This background led him to recognize an unmet need in the field of wound care.

Leveraging his understanding of product development, distribution, sales, and customer service, Spell established Tides Medical to deliver high-quality, safe, and effective skin substitute products coupled with a mission to deliver exceptional customer experiences. With its start as a private label birth tissue distributor, Tides’ business has grown to encompass the entire product and service cycle while maintaining its unwavering dedication to creating patient access. As a result of Spell’s visionary leadership, Tides has become a trusted partner for physicians who depend on personalized solutions from expert sales, reimbursement, and customer service teams.

Spell is an active supporter of many organizations in his community, including the Boys and Girls Club of Acadiana, the American Cancer Society, Junior Achievement, and LSU’s Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, among others. Through the Tides Medical Foundation and the Spell Family Foundation, Spell and his wife Annie have invested in local non-profits whose missions meet their philanthropic focus areas of education, medical research and community development.

Spell holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He is currently enrolled in the Owner/President Management Program at Harvard Business School with an anticipated graduation in November 2021.
